Play Date

Today Zoe enjoyed a play date with Emma Grace and Ava Lily. All 3 babies drooled all over each other and their toys, blew raspberries, squealed, giggled, and growled; I'm guessing this means "I'm having fun" in baby language. Both Zoe and Ava Lily tried to pull Emma Grace's hair out; I think they are just jealous because neither of them have any hair! I guess they figured pulling out someone else's hair would be easier than waiting for their own to grow. After a fun few hours of play for the babies and talking for the grown-ups, it was time to say goodbye. I think all the excitement wore Zoe out, she was sound asleep before the play date ended. :-)

Pool Time

It has been so hot in Germany for the past few days. With no air conditioning in the house, I decided the only way to get cool was to get a pool and take Zoe for a swim. With the store sold out of baby pools, I purchased a large Rubbermaid tub. I figured Zoe wouldn't know that she was swimming in an underbed storage container, as long as it cooled her off. Purchases in the car, I realized I forgot to get diapers, so I ran back into the store. Miracle of miracles, someone had just returned an inflatable baby pool. I quickly grabbed it, an electric pump, diapers and headed home. By the time I finished inflating the pool, filling it with water, getting Zoe situated, and of course getting my camera ready, I put my feet in the pool, held on to Zoe and was ready to finally sit back and relax. That's when Zoe started screaming. I quickly took her out, and slowly placed her back in the water. She slowly started to scream. I tried this again, with the same result. I felt the water with my hands and realized it was ice cold. Although it felt great on my feet, it was probably just a little too chilly for Zoe. I ran inside and got a pitcher of hot water to add to the pool. Finally, the water was just right. I plopped her in, gave her some toys, and she was happy as a clam. I have a feeling we'll be in this little pool a lot.

A New Seat In The House

Today was Zoe's first day in her high chair. Although she's not eating any solid food yet, I thought I'd bring the high chair up from the basement and give it a go. When I put Zoe in it, she looked so small. Her chin barely cleared the tray. After a few minor adjustments, I finally got her to a more comfortable position. At first, she wasn't so sure about it. She looked around, looked at the high chair, looked at me, then stuck out her bottom lip and blew a raspberry. It was when I put the toy on the tray that things started looking up. She squealed in delight and immediately started playing with it.

Carpet Swimming

Zoe started doing carpet swimming this week. Every time I put her on the floor, she flips to her stomach and starts moving her arms and legs. She just loves this! When I try to sit down and play with her, she 'swims' even harder. She hasn't been able to move forward yet, but after a few minutes, she can spin herself around. I think crawling may be coming sooner than I think! Click here to see a video of Zoe carpet swimming.

Rice cereal? No thanks!

Today was a big day for Zoe. I've been waiting for this day for a long time. Her first solid food! I bought the box of rice cereal a few weeks ago in anticipation. I had the cute little bowl and matching spoon all ready for the big event. I carefully mixed the cereal with formula, got the camera ready, and gave it a go. Unfortunately, Zoe wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of solid food. She squished up her face and spit it out. I tried this several times, with less success each time. Not only were her clothes covered in cereal, but so were my hands, my pants, and every piece of furniture within a 3 foot radius. After about 10 minutes, I decided to throw in the proverbial towel and fed her the rest of her bottle instead. She sucked that down, smiled at me, said "ah goo", and fell asleep. Maybe we'll try this again next week.

Zoe Flips!

Although Zoe has been flipping from her back to her belly during play time for a few weeks now, she hasn't tried this at night - until last night. When I went in to wake her up this morning, I found her like this. After my initial "oh my God, something's wrong!" moment, I went and grabbed the camera. :-) She looks so funny! It must be comfortable because she sleeps for about 12 hours straight in this new position.
